These paintings were done in a Moleskine Watercolour Notebook during the winter of 2016-2017, just after I had moved back to Massachusetts from California. Painting abstract was still new to me and I was still setting up my studio; I didn't feel ready to paint large canvases yet. This sketchbook became a place where I could play and experiment on a small scale. I usually worked in the late afternoon hours just before dinner, as darkness fell outside my studio windows. I was inspired by daily long walks in the winter landscapes around our new home, by woods and trees and rivers and ice and rock.
